It might be one of the most sparsely populated areas throughout the whole of Wales but that doesn’t stop there being plenty of famous exports from Snowdonia. It must be something in the water.

Here are just a few of the famous faces who stepped out from their caravan parks in Snowdonia and wanted to see their name up in lights instead.

Aled Jones
Considering that it’s almost Christmas, could there be anyone more relevant to mention? The Bangor boy who sang the famous ‘Walking in the Air’ grew up to become a national icon and can now be found on morning television.

With his cheeky charm and unmistakable Welsh parlance, Jones is an ever dependable member of the Daybreak team. His career has led him to interview some of the biggest names in the celebrity and he still has a great singing voice, but it’s understandably not quite so high these days.

T.E Lawrence
Modern cinema and literature owe a lot to this Tremadog native. The man behind the esteemed Lawrence of Arabia memoirs that were later adapted into one of the best movies of all time was proud of his heritage.

Lawrence of Arabia has had an incalculable effect on popular culture since its cinematic release and is based on Lawrence’s time abroad in the armed forces. Lawrence would often visit North Wales before his untimely death at the age of 46 in a motorcycle accident.

Duffy
As soon as the singer talks, the fact that she hails from Snowdonia is very obvious. A thick Bangor accent rolls out of her mouth and is far cry from her Dusty Springfield-eque singing voice. Although her career has gone quieter in recent years, Duffy will always be known for ‘Rockferry’: “a fantastic album of burning blue soul”.

Though the spotlight might not shine so brightly on the singer-songwriter in recent years, Duffy is currently chasing a change of career with a place on the big screen very much a possibility. Secret Love will be her first lead role and is due to be released sometime in 2015.
