Tips for Hiring Wedding Entertainment

There are so many different things to consider when it comes to hiring your wedding entertainment. Whether you’re thinking of hiring a band, DJ or even a wedding singer North Wales, make sure that you get the most out of them to ensure that your wedding party is as memorable as possible. Here are some top tips for hiring wedding entertainment for your big day.

Book Early

If you book your wedding entertainment nice and early you are not only more than likely to get your first choice (the most popular wedding bands are booked 12-18 months in advance for key dates), you will also be able to bag yourself a bargain.

Quotes will often be provided on current petrol prices and they rarely go down. Also, the more popular acts become, the more they will charge – it’s supply and demand, but if you book them early they are contracted to the quote that they provide.

Enhance Your Theme

Many weddings at the moment are based around a particular theme – sometimes very general like ‘spring’, and some much more specific such as ‘festival’ or ‘vintage’. When considering entertainment for your wedding it’s a great idea to use it to enhance your wedding theme. For example, a 1920s theme jazz band for your drinks reception and some flapper dancers teaching your guests the Charleston during your evening party would really help to bring your vintage themed wedding to life.

Consider Space Requirements

There is absolutely no point in booking an 8-piece orchestral band if you only have a tiny dance floor and an even smaller stage for them to set up on. At the same time, you don’t want your guests rattling around on a huge dance floor with only a tiny DJ booth in the corner. Think about the space that you have to play with and imagine your guests in it before adding the all important entertainment.

Venue Restrictions

Have an open discussion with your chosen wedding venue about the entertainment you are considering booking, before you part with your deposit. If you’ve chosen a beautiful grade II listed building to get married in, it might not be possible to hire a rock band as your wedding entertainment. Many wedding venues have certain restrictions when it comes to entertainment, such as sound limitations - which could have an impact on the type of bands you could book.

Check the Contract

If you are booking professional wedding entertainment, they will provide you with a full contract along with their terms and conditions. You need to check these over carefully and pay close attention to the cancellation terms and any contingencies that they have in place for emergencies.

Trust Your Entertainment

If you are booking professional wedding entertainment, there is a strong likelihood that they will have performed at hundreds of weddings before yours; and even though every wedding is personal, your band or singer will still know what’s best. For example, many bands will know what setlist will work to make sure you have a full dance floor and whilst it’s understandable you will want to include a few of your favorites, you should leave the rest to them.

Off-Peak Reductions

Have you given any thought to booking a weekday wedding or even in the off-peak months? During the weekends in summer, the majority of the bands and acts could easily book themselves 15-20 times over with the amount of enquiries they receive. Yet during the weekdays or in months like October, November, January and February, the same acts will struggle to fill their diaries. To help combat this they will offer reduced rates and for a wedding band you can save on average £150 – £200. Plus, winter themed weddings are simply stunning!
