How to Choose the Right Firewood
IMAGE

Firewood is one of the essential things for a nice warm and cosy home. It is used in a fireplace to generate heat and keep your home nice and toasty. It is also used in the kitchen for wood-burning stoves and multi-fuel stoves. These woods can be bought or ordered at firewood Conwy in the north Wales region or  dry logs in Denbighshire

We always want to have woods that work effectively for us because they don't produce too much smoke, provide enough heat, and are durable enough in the fire before being wholly used up. In this case, you will have to make good choices when choosing firewood.

Here is what you should know about choosing good firewood:

  • Moisture content:

It means how dried your firewood is. Firewood can be artificially dried or naturally dried, but how much moisture remains is an essential factor to consider regardless of its dried method. You can tell how much moisture your firewood contains using a moisture meter. It will read the moisture content. Some woods are kiln-dried, and some are wet woods.

Kiln-dried woods are simply firewoods that are artificially dried, while seasoned woods are naturally dried with a good percentage of moisture content below 20%. The moisture in it is just enough for it to burn effectively and not produce too much smoke.

Wet woods, on the other hand, are not suitable to be used. They are not dried enough. They contain moisture as much as 20%, which eventually will lead the fire to struggle with the wood, producing less heat and producing more smoke.

When choosing firewoods, make sure the moisture content is low enough, up to 10%. It would be best if you got a moisture meter to determine this. It will read the percentage of moisture content and help you make the right choice when choosing good firewood. However, using firewoods too dry will burn out quickly even though it produces enough heat. So it is equally not a good choice.

  • Try Coffee logs:

In place of using regular firewood, you can try out coffee logs. Coffee logs are more promising to provide all the essential details for adequate firewood. They are made of recycled used ground coffee. They provide 20% more heat than regular firewood provides and also produce less smoke. They are also more durable in the fire than regular firewood.

CONCLUSION

Choosing a good wood depends on its moisture content, and with the above listed and the aid of a moisture meter, determining a good wood by its moisture content should not be a problem for you. You can also alternatively use coffee logs as they also work effectively well.

You can also get these good woods, either hardwood or softwood, from Conwy or Denbighshire. Good wood makes your burning process for whatever course more accessible and more comfortable.
