Hotels in Llandudno Which are Traditional and Modern
IMAGE

We’re rather large fans of the finer things in life, and our holidays are, of course, one of them. We’ve found as of late UK holidays seem to be quite an emerging Thing, and at first we were in disbelief. British holidays conjure images of gigantic, faceless holiday parks with caravans arranged in rows as far as the eye can see, spits of sand heaving with deckchairs and sunburnt revellers, and £10 holiday deals from tabloid newspapers.

While we’re not exactly ones to knock that sort of holiday, it’s certainly not our thing. We like our extras – be them fluffy robes, wonderful toiletries, or individually styled suites which are far more unique than mass-painted offerings from large B&B chains. We want a holiday with a little soul! Imagine our surprise when we found a number of very high quality hotels in Llandudno which provide romantic retreats which are fantastic experiences, even if the Welsh weather doesn’t cooperate.

At the heart of North Wales lies the beautiful seafront towns of Conwy and Llandudno, and in the latter lies the gorgeous St Tudno Hotel in Llandudno.

Apparently this building hosted the real life Alice in Wonderland in some point of its like, and to this day is possessive of all the oldy-timey charm you’d expect from a Welsh character building, let alone a working Victorian property. Indeed, an old property but very carefully maintained (and not tatty, even in the slightest!)  the St Tudno Hotel in Llandudno strikes a very pretty picture from the outside with it’s hanging baskets, matching outdoor furniture and very pretty patio, as well as its truly enviable position on the North Parade, cradled by the Great Orme and surrounded with fantastic views of land and sea.

Yet we felt a vague sense of dread as we approached the hotel and saw the amount of Victorian buildings in Llandudno. While historically, this sort of building is very interesting (when on holiday in Wales, let alone a place as notoriously Victorian as Llandudno, can you expect more?) We’re not fans. We like double-glazing, for a start - and the thought of a British Victorian Seaside resort is usually somewhat tainted by the thought of decrepit old properties which are waiting for a good wrecking ball.

We were relieved to find that the St Tudno Hotel is anything but surprisingly well looked after. Inside, the decor is rather old-fashioned but very well maintained, and it is very clear that high end wallpaper, fabrics, and materials are used throughout the building.

We found the views stunning, the combination of the sea and the great orme providing quite the view The feeling is spectacular. You’re entirely and completely in heaven, getting spoiled by attentive staff and living the (Victorian) dream in one of the most traditional hotels in Llandudno. And despite our misgivings initially, we have a confession. Truthfully, it’s wonderful.

The comforts of the St Tudno Hotel in Llandudno are myriad and very many. Our favourites included the kingsize bed, a gorgeous bathroom that’s indeed, capable of producing hot water (and even a spa bath!), a very well-stocked minibar, a very handsomely decorated lounge, some recent DVDs for when you just don’t want to move, as well as some rather lovely toiletries. Our absolute favourite was the hot tub.

This is absolutely not a typical holiday in North Wales. You won’t find yourself elbowing through people at the beach, or standing in line in a tatty hotel, wondering if the carpets are older than you. This is old-fashioned in terms of stellar service and aesthetic, but modern in terms of , this is new, and the best kept secret in Wales ensures that it truly feels that you’re the only people in the world.
