Fishing at Ogwen Bank

If you’re a fan of fishing, it’s obvious that the best way to get out there and enjoy yourself is to do so in surroundings which are both beautiful, and jam-packed full of a great variety of fish. The Snowdonia region that encompasses North and Mid Wales is perhaps one of the lesser known, but best places to go in the UK for anglers of all types, and of particular note is the river Ogwen which just so happens to be a stones throw away from the beautiful Llyn (Lake) Ogwen.

There are so many opportunities for fishermen and women here, and what we feel is the most scenic place in the UK to pull up a chair and enjoy a good day’s fishing. The area around Ogwen Bank Holiday Park and Country Club is very varied and very diverse, and we’re certain that this beautiful part of Wales has something for fishermen and women of all types.

What sort of fish can you expect to see around this area? There’s a great variety of trout including river, lake, and sea varieties (and even rainbow trout!) and salmon at certain times of the year, and even better – Ogwen Bank Holiday Park has a series of special offers available to anglers throughout the year.

Fishing permits, of course, are required throughout this area, and can be obtained from the friendly staff at Ogwen Bank Holiday Park and Country Club, who are delighted to set you up with permit fishing throughout the region. Please keep in mind that while you cannot fish in the Holiday Park itself (owing to an old law which means that the nearby country club – property of Lord Penrhyn is unfishable) you are more than welcome to fish in the following areas around the holiday park.

Areas perfect for fishing around the area are the following: Ogwen Lake, Bochlwyd Lake, Idwal and Ffynon Lloer as well as the parts of the River Ogwen which lie between Pont y Pandy, Halfway Bridge, and Pontwr. Also of major note is Pont Ceunant, Tyn y Maes to Ogwen Lake.

Ogwen Bank itself is absolutely angler friendly, and with its abundance of scenic woodland and high-end luxury lodges (some of these luxury lodges for sale in Snowdonia!), we can’t think of a better place to rest up after a long days angling and share stories about your haul.

For more information on the rules and the regulations of fishing in this area, please refer to the Ogwen Angling Association’s website.
